Love local radio? Digital HD Radio broadcasts pump up the sound quality. FM approaches CD quality, while AM sounds like traditional FM. You'll notice a big difference if you have subs — HD Radio really gives you your bass back. Plus, stations can broadcast additional content on the same frequency, giving you more listening options. For instance, your local NPR station might broadcast the BBC news feed on their "HD-2" channel.

And as an added bonus, HD Radio makes it easier for you to stock your music library with tunes you love. With an iPod® or iPhone® connected and an HD Radio station tuned in, you can "tag" the songs you like for purchasing later from the iTunes store.

Total Traffic Plus — it's not just for major cities

The built-in HD Radio gives you a couple of other sweet features too. First, the KW-NT50HDT uses a dedicated tuner to dial in the free HD Total Traffic Plus network — you'll enjoy access to real-time traffic info that'll help you steer clear of traffic jams. Other traffic info services only work in major metropolitan areas, but HD Total Traffic Plus works anywhere a station is broadcasting HD Radio traffic information.

Second, HD Radio's digital technology allows for data transmission more than ten times faster than satellite systems, so the KW-NT50HDT can pull in lots of useful data from digital HD Radio transmissions. Many HD Radio stations broadcast weather, sports scores, gasoline prices, and a whole lot more.

iheartradio gives you over 750 free radio stations

Download the free iheartradio iPhone app and you'll get over 750 of America's favorite local radio stations, as well as channels hosted by Christina Aguilera, the Eagles, and Weezer. Once you connect your iPhone, you can navigate iheartradio stations using the KW-NT50HDT's touchscreen. You'll see album art and song info, plus you can use iheartradio's search screen to find music.

Save your favorite stations as you go, and you'll have easy access to them later. You can dial in your hometown stations while you're out of town, too. iheartradio also gives you local traffic reports, which is nice if you're ever out of range of an HD Radio station.

In-dash maps help get you there

You'll see detailed maps on the touchscreen and enjoy access to over 6 million points of interest. The KW-NT50HDT gives you flexible viewing options, including a magnified split-screen view that shows you a closeup of your current location next to a broader overview of the area. You can check out the local speed limit at a glance, and the KW-NT50HDT will even let you know what lane you should be in to make the highway exit. Text-to-speech technology calls out the name of the street for your next turn, letting you keep your eyes on the road.

You can update your maps through the SD™-card slot — you can even copy your own points-of-interest from Google Maps on your home computer, then load them onto the KW-NT50HDT using the SD card.

Hands-free calling, plus listen to iPhone apps

Built-in Bluetooth® technology lets you make hands-free calls in your vehicle. When a call comes in, the receiver mutes the music and you'll hear the caller over your vehicle's speakers. You can mount the included microphone in a convenient spot for maximum sound quality.

iPhone users will love this — you can send audio from your apps to the KW-NT50HDT over the Bluetooth connection. For instance, you can run your PANDORA® Internet radio app and listen to it over your speakers. You can also stream tunes you've loaded on any other compatible device.
